Sadness embraced her like a shroud.
Smothered her.
Consumed her.
There she lay, entombed within the shadows
Creeping in each night.
As daylight faded, the dark mass
Laying dormant inside her mind
Came to life.
Like a vampire it feasted on her.
Draining her of hope.
She yearned for an end.
A way out.
It was always worse at night.
In the stillness, the silence.
Where her thoughts screamed into an empty void.
Darkness was a vessel
Where death seemed the only escape.
She yearned for it
An ending.
As the blade touched her skin
She felt alive for the first time.
Cold steel
Warm blood.
But it wasn’t her body she wanted to kill -
It was her mind.
Raped repeatedly by ravenous thoughts
Like a cancer growing.
Until there was no more room for the tumour to grow.
The sheer weight of it suffocated her.
She just wanted to end it all.
A way out.
